Once a year the little village of Ruhpolding in the very south of Germany welcomes more than 80,000 enthousiastic biathlon fans to visit the IBU World Cup. The opening ceremony is very popular, thus more than 6,000 visitors assemble densely at the small village square.
Repeatedly we have been asked to contribute with our artists for the opening show. Related to the Biathlon sporting event we created performances with dance and acrobatics visualizing core disciplines and characteristics of the Biathlon: Sprint, pursuit and relay – speed and endurance on the one hand, precision and accuracy for the target shooting on the other hand.
We choregraphed and staged various shows inspired by these themes with means of performing arts. Over the years we performed with tumbling acrobatics, acro balance, aerial straps, trampolining, hip-hop dance, stilt walkers, juggling with LED-props, Live-Drummers, Flying Globe and Swinging Poles. Rich in contrast to the snow and cold we also used pyro effects and fire jugglers at temperatures of up to minus 20 degrees.
The coolest shows ever
